Eden Alternative

“Viewing elders as people who are still growing, learning and have within them a connection to the future” is an Eden Alternative philosophy that is very much alive and well at Winchester House.

Occupational Therapy professionals are invited to find out more about the Eden Alternative philosophy and how it applies to occupational therapy in general, and specifically at Winchester House, at this year’s Illinois Occupational Therapy Association (ILOTA) conference held November 9-11 at the Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Normal, Illinois.

Winchester House occupational therapists, Rhonda Guzman, OTR/L and Deborah Kayler, OTR/L will present:

Eden Alternative Philosophy as it Applies to Occupational Therapy: Engaging Residents in Meaningful Activities and Promoting Human Growth in Later Stages of Life

This course will review the ten principles of the Eden Alternative philosophy and relate them to Occupational Therapy's practice framework within the long-term care setting.

The presentation includes an example of how the Eden principles are applied to the activities and therapy departments at Winchester House, which is working toward becoming a registered Eden facility, and will highlight a resident-driven program that incorporates Eden Alternative principles into occupational therapy practice.
